Haley’s Latest Read

My son’s latest read was Gregor the Overlander by Suzanne Collins. His review is below.

Gregor the Overlander is a great book, confusing at times but most of it was great. The story is about a boy named Gregor who falls down a hole in the wall with his baby sister Boots and is brought to a underground world consisting of giant roaches, giant bats, and humans who have been evolving underground for centuries. Gregor soon learns that there are many dangers in the underlands when he is almost killed by giant rats. Then he finds out that the rats are at war with the humans and he is a sacred warrior in a prophecy foretold by the discoverer of the underlands, the Prophecy of Grey. The city is then attacked by rats and Gregor has to fulfill the prophecy by either saving the underlands or destroying them.

One of my favorite parts in this book is when Gregor first arrives in the underland and is escorted by giant roaches and then sold to the humans. Even though this book is good I had some trouble deciphering whether Luxa and Vikus, the royal family of the underlands, were boys or girls. It is a great book to read for people that have trouble reading four-hundred page books.

Even though it has some flaws it is a really good book.It has a great plot which the author describes at the beginning and not at the very end. It is sad, shocking, and surprising and I hope to read the next book in the series.
